Chris Sutton has questioned how much input Brendan Rodgers has on Celtic’s transfer activity.

So far this summer Celtic have only brought in Odsonne Edouard with Rodgers completing the leg work for that deal last summer during a trip to France.

Celtic shipped out what was a record fee for the striker but other than converting the loan for the striker into a permanent deal there has been no other arrivals at Celtic Park.

Bringing players to Scotland has never been easy, getting the money right and convincing the player of the challenge is difficult enough but with the improvement in the squad finding the quality to improve things more isn’t easy.

At Liverpool Rodgers had to deal with a transfer/recruitment committee with one of the attractions of Celtic being that he would have control of everything on the playing side.

In the Daily Record Sutton covered the recent comments of the Celtic boss

Rodgers said: “I can’t tell you anything about him or anyone else.

The club are working hard behind the scenes to try to get some signings in. I think he’s been one that has been identified.”

That perplexed me. I “think” he’s one that’s been identified?

That didn’t sound normal to me. I don’t know what to make of the fact he just “thinks” Arzani is a player that has been targeted.

Maybe it was a slip of the tongue. Maybe he didn’t mean that. Maybe he meant he “thinks” negotiations are moving on.

But saying I can’t tell you anything about him and all I know is he’s a talented young Australian player seems, well, odd.

Does this mean Rodgers is getting players for his squad he doesn’t know? Does this mean he’s getting a player not as good as one he wants and having to make do? Only he can answer that, not me. The words were certainly bizarre at best.

Celtic have had three bids for John McGinn rejected by Hibs and appear to be waiting for the English transfer window to close on August 9 before returning to the transfer market.
