Neil Lennon has admitted that John McGinn’s situation ‘may change in the next week’.

Celtic have had two bids for the midfielder turned down by Hibs who fielded McGinn in last night’s Europa League tie against NSI Runavik.

That appearance would rule him out of playing for Celtic in any qualifiers but he could be used in the group phase of the Champions League or Europa League if the hoops go through.

With the English transfer window closing on August 9 Hibs have just over a fortnight to find an offer better than the one from Celtic- or be left with a player running down the final months of his contract.

Updating the Daily Record about the situation Lennon said: “I was also pleased with John, the best thing was to get him playing and focusing on his job.

He looked fit and his passing was good and showed he’s very much a Hibs player.

That may change in the next week with a club or any other club that may come in for him.

We have our valuation of the player, we said we would play him tonight and we played him.”

Last summer Hibs turned down bids from Ipswich and Nottingham Forest for the midfielder that they signed from St Mirren three years ago.

McGinn is free to sign a pre-contract agreement in January which would see Hibs miss out on a transfer fee and allow him to pocket an extra £1m in his signing on fee.
