Nir Bitton can be added to the long list of players missing from Celtic’s Champions League qualifier against Alashkert.

The 26-year-old had a knee operation in February and has still to resume full training.

While his team-mates have been stepping up their pre-season preparations in Austria Bitton has remained in Scotland to continue his rehabilitation.

When Celtic fly to Armenia next week they will be without Dedryck Boyata, Mikael Lustig, Tom Rogic and Bitton.

A year ago the Israeli internationalist was drafted in as an emergency central defender as the hoops negotiated their way through three qualifying rounds to reach the group phase of the Champions League- where he also played in central defence.

In January Brendan Rodgers moved to strengthen his defence with Marvin Compper and Jack Hendry signed.

Celtic complete their trip to Austria tomorrow with a double header against RB Linz in the morning followed by a match against Sparta Prague at tea time.
