Garry Parker has confirmed that Celtic have made a bid for John McGinn.

The Hibs assistant manager was on media duty after last night’s pre-season friendly at Berwick Rangers which the midfielder missed out on.

Celtic are believed to have made an offer of around £1.5m for McGinn who is in the final year of his contract at Easter Road.

Rod Petrie will be looking elsewhere for offers rather than deal with Celtic but after losing Dylan McGeouch to Sunderland for nothing the Easter Road chief knows that McGinn holds the aces and could sign a pre-contract deal with Celtic in January.

Speaking to the Daily Record Parker said: “Celtic have submitted a bid as we all know but John is our player at the moment. I don’t know what price we would be looking for. You would need to ask the board.

But nothing fazes John, he will be playing on Sunday and we are looking forward to that ahead of a big game against Runavik.

Tongues will always be wagging but John was just being rested, like Marv (Bartley) and Flo (Kamberi). We wanted to give a few of the young boys a run out and they did very well.”

The UEFA deadline for signings is 11pm tonight although a wildcard can be registered the day before the first match.

Hibs are keen to get Scott Allan back from Celtic but that element won’t be significant in discussions over McGinn.

Both clubs will be in UEFA action over the next fortnight but talks are expected to continue with McGinn’s previous club, St Mirren, believed to be due a third of any transfer fee.
