Brendan Rodgers has provided a transfer update a week ahead of the Champions League qualifier away to Alashkert of Armenia.

Odsonne Edouard returning on a permanent deal is the only incoming transfer business completed with Stuart Armstrong and Patrick Roberts absent from last season’s treble winning squad.

John McGinn and Harry Wilson of Liverpool are the most recent names linked with joining the champions but it seems unlikely that they will be on board for the flight to Armenia.

Celtic must declare their squad for the first qualifying round by 11pm on Thursday although one more signing can be added by 11pm on Monday- the eve of the game.

After watching Moussa Dembele score the only goal of the game against Sparta Prague Rodgers told The Sun: “There is a lot of speculation around players but I will only talk when they are signed and done. The club are trying to do that.

It is not a case of: ‘Get replacements and then improvements’ — it’s what we need combined but it’s important we get replacements.”

It appears that interest in former Hull defender Moses Odubajo has stalled.

Dedryck Boyata, Mikael Lustig and Tom Rogic will miss the matches against Alashkert due to their involvement in the World Cup although the Australian midfielder should be back training within the next ten days.

Celtic face Shamrock Rovers on Saturday then take on Standard Liege in-between the two legs against Alashkert.

A year ago Olivier Ntcham was signed just before the Champions League qualifier against Linfield.
