Brendan Rodgers has played down Wednesday’s car crash involving Olivier Ntcham and Odsonne Edouard.

The collision on the outskirts of Cumbernauld happened the day after the players had been involved in a Champions League qualifier in Armenia and managed to become front page news in Thursday’s papers.

Neither player was injured in the collision with team-mate Moussa Dembele quickly on the scene of the accident.

Commenting to The Sun Rodgers said: “There was obviously a minor accident yesterday but thankfully the players and the other guy involved as well are safe and fine.

There’s not a great deal else we can say on it because obviously there is an investigation on it, but thankfully the guys in both cars are fine.”

The three players at the scene will all be cheering on France in the World Cup Final on Sunday with Dembele and Ntcham current u-21 internationalists.

None of those players are likely to feature in Saturday’s friendly against Standard Liege although they will feature in Wednesday’s return leg against Alashkert.

With the first round Champions League qualifier virtually over as a contest Celtic can look forward to a much tougher test in the second round against Valur or Rosenborg.

Last night the Icelandic side won the first leg 1-0 to give them an advantage going into Wednesday’s return match in Norway.

Last season Celtic defeated Rosenborg 1-0 on aggregate to move forward to the play-off phase of the Champions League where they were drawn against Astana.
