Six days before facing Celtic Rosenborg have sacked manager Kare Hedley Ingebrigsen.

The 52-year-old has been in charge since July 2014 but despite being the current Norwegian champions and sitting two points off top place he has been sacked.

Last night Rosenborg edged past Valur on a 3-2 aggregate courtesy of a highly controversial stoppage time penalty.

A media conference will be held later today to explain the decision.

Last season Celtic ended Rosenborg’s Champions League hopes on a 1-0 aggregate but they did reach the Europa League group phase by beating Ajax in the play-off round.

Rosenborg don’t have any league matches over the next two weekends meaning that a caretaker or replacement will face back-to-back matches against Celtic.

The hoops have problems of their own with a defensive crisis highlighted by the suspension of Jozo Simunovic for the first leg tie in Glasgow next Wednesday but all eyes will be on the Norwegian bench for that match.
