Up until Wednesday evening it was almost impossible to avoid English claims that ‘Football’s Coming Home’ with the song from 1996 going to the top of the charts.
Croatia killed off those hopes with their semi-final win over Gareth Southgate’s side who returned quietly to Birmingham Airport just as the final was kicking off.
While Croatia caught the eye playing with skill and heart once France opened the scoring through a penalty from Antoine Griezmann there was an inevitability about how the game would turn out.
Dembele’s tweet is unlikely to endear him to fans of English clubs but his sky high popularity among Celtic fans has increased even more.
