Ewan Henderson was the name that had Celtic supporters talking and searching for following the 3-1 Super Cup win over Manchester United in Coleraine.

The midfielder has been on the radar mainly as Liam’s younger brother but made a brief first team debut last season and scored in the 2017 Glasgow Cup Final win over Sevco.

Ewan became a regular in Celtic’s Development squad last season but unlike many of his team-mates was ignored for Scotland honours, notably at the European Championships in Germany.

Yesterday against Manchester United he turned in the complete midfield performance- his two goals were a bonus.

Alongside Kerr McInroy Celtic dominated the middle of the park with Henderson given licence to push forward at every opportunity.

From the second minute when he teed up Scott Robertson for a shot that hit the bar he was on top of his game as Tommy McIntyre told Celtic TV.

Ewan is a talent, he has already played in the first team and we have big hopes for him,” the Celtic Development coach explained.

The good thing about Ewan is that he works really hard. He came in and this was the perfect game for him, it’s a big stage against a top quality team. He revels in that as did one or two of our players.

The game had a bit of everything, it’s good to see individual flashes of brilliance and Ewan gives you that. His all round performance was pleasing.”

Next weekend Celtic’s Development squad will be playing in the South Shields tournament.
