Steven Gerrard has threatened to ‘splash the cash’ on a striker after Alfredo Morelos’ nightmare performance against Shkupi.

Even by his own standards the Colombian ace hit a new low as he missed chance after chance against the fourth best team in Macedonia.

Morelos’ patchy form has nosedived since news of a mystery £11m bid from China was created at the start of the year and instantly ridiculed by fans of every club in Scotland.

Since the end of last season Sevco have lost Jason Cummings, Kenny Miller and Eduardo Herrera leaving Gerrard with just one striker who can barely find his way to goal.

Asked if he would be forced to bring in new strikers the former Liverpool u-18 coach told The Sun: “I don’t want to go out and do that, but the games will get more difficult now.

I think if I’m candid about it, the people that can score goals and create quality for us are in that dressing room. I have said they are here.

We almost, with all due respect, treated these two games as pre-season. Pre-season is done now. Next week I can’t talk about tuning up and sharpening up. We are four weeks in now. Those players have to start delivering in the final third.

There needs to be more quality. I can’t be any more candid about it.”

Since Gerrard took over transfer fees have only been paid out for three players- Jamie Murphy, Nikola Katic and Connor Goldston.

Sevco have taken Umar Sadiq on a season long loan from Roma but the striker, known as the Nigerian Kevin Kyle, is still waiting for international clearance on his move.
