Rosenborg’s Champions League win over Valur was dominated by controversial penalty decisions.

Stefan Apostolov from Bulgaria was the match referee that had fans of both sides screaming for the introduction of VAR.

After a goal-less first half Nicklas Bendtner opened the scoring from the penalty spot with Anders Trondsen appearing to put the Norwegian’s through to face Celtic when he scored in the 72nd minute.

The tie was then turned on it’s head when Valur were awarded a penalty in the 85th minute that Kristinn Freyr Sigurdsson but as if Apostolov was evening up the mistakes Bendtner scored his second penalty in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

When the dust settled it was Rosenborg that visit Celtic Park next Wednesday in a re-match of last season’s qualifier which Celtic got through on a 1-0 aggregate.

After a goal-less draw at home a second half strike from James Forrest took Celtic into the play-off round where they faced Astana, who are also in this season’s competition.
