Within 24 hours of banking his Sevco pay off Fabio Cardoso has signed a four year contract with cd Santa Clara.
The club based on the Azores won promotion to the top flight last season and will enjoy regular fixtures next season against Benfica, Porto and the other top sides in the Portuguese League.
A year ago Sevco agreed a £1.5m fee with Vitoria Setubal and a three year contract with the central defender who was expected to form a dream team partnership with Bruno Alves. It is believed that money is still owed on that fee.
Twelve months later both players have been paid to leave Ibrox.
Cardoso’s deal with Santa Clara is a massive slap in the face for Sevco Director of Football Mark Allen.
A key part of the former Manchester City star-maker’s job is to deal with other clubs, using his contact book to sniff out deals, both in-coming and out-going.
So far Sevco have sent Jason Holt, Joe Dodoo, Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera out on loan with all four due to return in May.
Harry Forester, Alves and Cardoso have been paid to leave with all three fixing up clubs as soon as they banked their Ibrox pay off.
Lee Hodson and Lee Wallace are expected to be the next players to collect their pay-off’s.f.
