Celtic are holding out for a £12m bid from Fulham for Dedryck Boyata.

An initial bid of £9m emerged on Sunday evening but with the English transfer window closing on Thursday Celtic are expecting to receive an improved offer.

Although Celtic would rather hold on to Boyata the player is keen on the deal according to a report in the Daily Mail.

Brendan Rodgers first mentioned a new contract for Boyata back in December but eight months later that appears unlikely with interest growing after his displays for Belgium in the World Cup Finals.

Fulham paid £15m to sign Alfie Mawson from Swansea with Celtic using that fee as a benchmark with the player into the final year of his contract.

Aberdeen’s Scott McKenna is a possible replacement although that move is less attractive with the defender ruled out of action for two months after tearing his hamstring in the 1-1 draw with Sevco.
