Emilio Izaguirre is on his way back to Celtic on a one year contract.

The defender left Celtic a year ago to join Saudi side Al Feiha on a three year deal that suited all parties.

Izaguirre’ family failed to settle in the gulf state and left Al Feiha during the summer.

He spoke recently about a return to his first club, Motagua of Honduras but has shelved that option in favour of a return to Celtic where he will be understudy to Kieran Tierney.

While the return of the 32-year-old will be popular with supporters it does highlight the problems that Brendan Rodgers has in the transfer market.

Turning the clock back is rarely the first choice of a manager but with transfer business slow the Celtic boss has had little option other than to offer a short term deal to a player that he was prepared to sell 12 months ago.

Izaguirre will be available for the play-off round of UEFA competition with the hoops certain to be playing in the Champions League or Europa League.
