Brendan Rodgers remains hopeful that John McGinn will become a Celtic player.

So far three bids have been rejected for the midfielder who is out of contract next summer.

The potential transfer has split the Celtic support with as many fans wanting to dump the deal as there are urging the club to pay out a fee of between £3-4m.

Rodgers has been a fan of McGinn since he watched him playing in The Championship, yesterday he told the Daily Mail: “It is something between the clubs. It is something that they will hopefully look to conclude but at this minute John is a Hibs player and doing very well for them.”

McGinn scored for Hibs in their 1-1 draw with Asteras to book a third round tie against Molde.

The first leg of that tie is on Thursday which is the day that the English transfer window closes.

If Hibs are determined to rule out a move to Celtic they will have to sell their top player on the eve of a Europa League tie- assuming that McGinn is agreeable to moving to England.

McGinn wouldn’t be available to play for Celtic in any UEFA qualifiers but could play in the group stage of the Champions League if Celtic qualified.
