Davie Hay believes that there is still much more for Brendan Rodgers to achieve at Celtic.

On Wednesday night the hoops boss confirmed that he had been approached and turned down a lucrative offer to manage a club in China.

Rodgers could have filled his bank account many times over from a stint in China but few players or managers return from there to progress their career.

For two years the Irishman was in the spotlight as Celtic scooped up trophies and competed in the Champions League but the current season has been much more of a challenge.

Questions have been asked about Rodgers’ ability and recruitment that weren’t heard in his first two seasons but Hay is certain that the former Liverpool boss has lots more to achieve at Celtic.

He told the Evening Times:

At Celtic he has been able to go on and win the first trophies of his managerial career and I don’t think you can underestimate the ability to look back when your career finishes and take stock of what you achieved in the game.

I think he is hungry for success. And at this point in his managerial career I think the pull of winning trophies holds its own appeal. Rodgers has won two Trebles with Celtic but there is still the feeling that there is more to come.

Rodgers will speak to the media today to preview Celtic’s match with Aberdeen on Saturday.
