Rod Stewart has spoken out about his attachment to Grace and how he visited Kilmainham Jail to fully understand the song.

Two years ago the Celtic support added Grace to their songbook giving the emotional song a new worldwide audience.

Anything with an Irish angle is going to attract criticism within Scotland regardless of it’s content with Stewart not prepared to bow to the gullible over his latest single.

Speaking to the Daily Record he said: I don’t care if I get stick from Rangers fans. They are entitled to their opinion but it’s one of the most tragic love songs I’ve ever sung. I did my homework on it before I recorded it.

I went over to Dublin, went to Kilmainham Gaol, I went to the chapel where it all happened so I could understand the song. You can’t attach the I R A to that song. He was in the Irish freedom fighters.”

Stewart is a regular at Celtic matches depending on his touring commitments and has shunned offers from other clubs, notably in London, to watch the wonderful EPL.

Since catching up with Jimmy Johnstone and Kenny Dalglish there has been only one team that interests the singer who is 1995 officially opened the North Stand when Celtic played Newcastle United in a pre-season friendly.
