Steve Clarke has defended Kris Boyd’s right to discuss Celtic round the clock.

The obsessed Kilmarnock substitute can barely let a day go by without offering his opinions on the seven-in-a-row champions to any of his media outlets.

Celtic’s 2-1 defeat at Rugby Park last Sunday ought to have been a source of joy for Killie supporters but afterwards their top scoring striker only had thoughts for his opponents.

TalkSPORT, Radio Scotland and Sky Sports all carried the thoughts of the ageing striker which varied from dressing room splits to players not interested in playing for the jersey.

SFA and SPFL rules prohibit players or managers from being openly critical of other clubs but like his old clubs at Ibrox it appears that Boyd is immune to the rules that others abide with.

“Kris is a pundit, he gives his opinion,” Clarke told BBC Scotland as he defended his substitute.

“He’s 35 years of age. I’m sure he knows when and what he should say at the right times without me getting involved.

“Normally, if an ex-Celtic person gives an opinion on Rangers, it gets magnified and if an ex-Rangers person gives an opinion on Celtic, it gets magnified. I think that was the situation last week.”

Boyd will be giving an update on his view from the Rugby Park bench in tomorrow’s Sun.
