Livingston have banned The Sun from the Toni Macaroni Stadium.

A club statement this afternoon banned the newspaper following a story with the headline ‘A suspected cocaine stash was found in a toilet at Livi’s stadium’.

Football clubs and newspapers have a very delicate relationship with problems usually occurring when the News Desk want to run with a story.

The rights and wrongs of the issue are bound to be debated with few tears likely to be shed by The Sun over having access to Gary Holt’s squad closed off.

Sunday’s match with Sevco will be given extensive television and radio coverage with a reporter from The Sun likely to be sitting in the stand beating the ban.

Football clubs do enjoy free publicity in newspapers that other sports would love to enjoy with the name of Livingston’s stadium a classic example of how club’s cash in on media coverage.

According to the Livi statement the story was ‘a disgraceful piece of scaremongering over an empty bag’.

Livi were promoted to the Premiership at the end of last season after beating Partick Thistle in the play off.
