The Daniel Arzani mystery deepened overnight with a claim that the young Australian doesn’t have a December get-out clause in his two year loan deal.

Early on Monday morning an Australian website, The World Game, claimed that the teenager could return to Manchester City if he hasn’t played a first team game for Celtic by December.

That’s untrue however according to the Evening Times:

Celtic last night dismissed claims that Australian winger Daniel Arzani has a clause in his contract which would entitle him to return to Manchester City before the turn of the year.

Reports from an Australian website had claimed that there is a clause in the teenager’s loan deal that would allow him to leave Celtic and go back to Pep Guardiola’s side if he had not broken into the Celtic first-team by December.

However, that has been rubbished by Celtic.

Tellingly there are no quotes, not even from ‘a Parkhead insider’ in the report.

In May Charly Musonda returned to Chelsea four months into an 18 month loan deal with Celtic as it emerged that there was a review period open to both clubs.

With a two year loan deal it would be highly unlikely that there are no clauses in the contract allowing either club or the player to cancel the deal.

At the end of August Jack Aitchison signed for Dumbarton on loan until January but returned to Celtic after five weeks with the League One side. Last season the same thing happened with Joe Thomson’s move to Livingston.

So far Arzani has started four reserve matches with just four more scheduled between now and December- two in the Glasgow Cup and one in the Reserve League and one in the Reserve Cup.

Unfortunately for Celtic there is barely any mechanism for players outside of the first team to develop with just a couple of matches a month.

Should Arzani fail to play a first team match by the end of the year City could send him out on loan to a Dutch or Belgian side with the near certainty of getting first team football.

UPDATE: Last night Arzani got a 25 minute run for Australia in their 4-0 win over Kuwait with Tom Rogic among the scorers.
