Steven Naismith is facing a six to eight week lay off.
The Hearts striker suffered a mystery knee injury of his side’s 3-0 Betfred Cup defeat from Celtic on Sunday, walking away after just seven minutes.
With Kyle Lafferty sold to Sevco in August and Uche Ikpeazu ruled out through injury until the new year Craig Levein’s side are short on striking options at a critical time
“It looks like he’s got a little tear in his cartilage, which we suspected,” the Hearts boss told The Sun.
“Maybe six to eight weeks or something like that – but I’m guessing.”
