Rubin Kazan have been barred from UEFA competition for one season for breaking Financial Fair Play regulations.

The Russian side competed in the Europa League in seasons 2012/13, 2013/14 and 2015/16 but will be banned if they qualify in either of the next two seasons.

Rubin initially came under review in 2014 when they were offered a settlement which is essentially an agreement with UEFA to bring their spending in line with their income.

Today’s ban was incurred for breaking the settlement agreement.

Despite appearing to over-spend in each of their six years Sevco have been given licence by the SFA to take part in the Europa League qualifiers in each of the last two seasons.

The regulations are in place to keep clubs living within their means and to provide an element of fair play to ensure that clubs don’t overspend to recoup their losses through UEFA prize money.

With substantial funds in the bank FFP has never been a problem for Celtic.
