Obsessed Kris Boyd has had to turn the clock back a month for his weekly, or weakly, attack on Celtic.

Dedryck Boyata’s red card against St Johnstone on September 26 is filling the thoughts of the veteran striker who is likely to spend 90 minutes on the Kilmarnock bench today as his employers take on Hamilton Accies.

As everyone has known for a month Boyata will miss the semi-final against Hearts forcing Brendan Rodgers into a change in central defence.

It seems that there is something of a time lag to darkest Ayrshire with the record breaking hit man sharing his views with readers of The Sun this morning.

Reflecting on Boyata from the sub seats at Rugby Park he explained: “as Jozo Simunovic was carried off on a stretcher against Leipzig on Thursday night, I bet he suddenly felt a whole lot worse.

If ever there was a time when Brendan Rodgers needed Boyata, it’s Sunday.

Hearts may not have bustling  target-man Uche Ikpeazu, but you can guarantee Craig Levein will have a go at Celtic.

Jack Hendry and Filip Benkovic better be prepared for a physical battle alright — assuming Hendry gets the call and Rodgers doesn’t go with a back three.

Simunovic’s injury only underlines how ludicrous it was for Boyata to get sent off in Perth.

Rodgers didn’t exactly slaughter him afterwards, but if Celtic crash out then I’m sure he’ll have something to say, behind the scenes if not in front of  TV and reporters.”

In his long illustrious record breaking career Boyd has scored the grand total of one goal against Celtic.

With Eamonn Brophy and Gregg Stewart in form it might be a long time before the media darling is again getting a chasing from Celtic defenders.
