Celtic icon set for Super Sunday celebration
On Sunday Bobby Lennox will be honoured by Saltcoats when a statue of the Lisbon Lion is unveiled.
A two year campaign to honour the player will culminate in a simple ceremony to honour the furthest flung of Jock Stein’s most famous side.
While most of his team-mates were born in and around Glasgow the ‘buzz-bomb’ was from fully 30 miles away on the Ayrshire coast.

Throughout his career Lennox remained faithful to his home town- outlasting all of his Lisbon team-mates with his last Celtic appearance coming in the 1980 Scottish Cup Final win over the old Rangers club.
He played in 11 championship winning sides covering the 9-in-a-row run, the 76/77 double winners and the 4-2 match in 1979 which was Billy McNeill’s first success as Celtic manager.
After returning from the game Lennox had a spell as reserve team coach at Celtic Park and is still a regular at matches after celebrating his 75th birthday in August.
