Roberto Martinez was a surprise visitor to Celtic Park for the 5-0 win over Hearts.

The Belgian international boss is one of the favourites to replace Santiago Solari at Real Madrid but put that speculation to one side to check out the form of Dedryck Boyata.

The Celtic defender had little to do of a defensive nature in the win over Hearts but can expect to be busier if he is called in by Martinez for the Nations League matches against Iceland and Switzerland this month.

Martinez is no stranger to Celtic Park having played against Martin O’Neill’s side while a Motherwell player in the early part of the century.

During his managerial career he has had a number of dealings with Celtic and was linked with the job in 2009 but Swansea refused him permission to speak to Celtic who switched attention to Tony Mowbray.

Earlier this season Martinez turned to Celtic to boost his backroom team by adding Shaun Maloney to his coaching team.
