BBC Scotland cast doubt over Kieran Tierney’s honesty by using inverted commas to report on his claim that he was gutted to miss Scotland’s recent double header.

The Celtic defender spent four days last week training with the Scotland squad before pulling out on the day that Alex McLeish’s side flew to Albania.

The Scotland boss spoke out about Tierney’s injury claiming that playing on Livingston’s plastic pitch had played a part in his withdrawal.

Tierney’s commitment to Scotland has never been doubted, captaining the nation last season and often playing out of position to accommodate Andy Robertson.

Having been born in the Isle of Man Tierney could chosen to play for England, Wales or the north east corner of Ireland, he picked Scotland.

No name is attributed to the BBC article which is usually a sure sign that someone isn’t convinced of the contents.

If the state broadcaster wants to look into dubious international withdrawals they should contact the SFA and ask why Glenn Middleton was missing from the Scotland u-19 squad against San Marino and Sweden after starring against Wales.

The Ibrox starlet didn’t have a mystery knock.
