Mikey Johnston joked that he’s due a testimonial after signing a new contract keeping him at Celtic until 2023.

The winger has been attached to the club since he was 9-year-old with his distinctive dribbling and attacking skills nurtured through the Academy.

On the day of his first team debut in May 2017 he signed a three year contract with today’s new deal rewarding the progress that he has made over the last 18 months.

Nine appearances so far illustrate the progress that he has made this season although a hamstring strain has halted his development recently.

Having started both legs of the Europa League qualifier against Alashkert the 19-year-old has earned the trust of Brendan Rodgers to play at the highest level.

With Celtic’s heavy schedule of matches starting at Hamilton on Saturday having a fully fit Johnston to call on will be welcomed by the Celtic boss.
