Dedryck Boyata could be out of action until the new year.

The defender survived a sickening first half head clash with Gary Mackay-Steven that left the Dons winger hospitalised but was forced to limp off 15 minutes into the second half.

Boyata required stitches before returning to the action after a six minute hold up as Mackay-Steven was being revived.

The Belgian defender played a major role in the match by sending through the raking pass that set up Ryan Christie for the decisive goal.

Without any sign of contact Boyata fell to the ground before being substituted holding his thigh with what seemed like a muscle injury.

Celtic will have the injury scanned and assessed but it seems likely that the former Manchester City defender will miss the remainder of the hectic December schedule.

Jozo Simunovic replaced Boyata at Hampden and is likely to continue in central defence at Hampden.
