Dedryck Boyata is unlikely to be back in action until the new year.

The defender suffered a head knock against Aberdeen at Hampden on Sunday then had to be substituted with what appeared to be a hamstring related injury.

Jozo Simunovic is likely to come in to replace Boyata- breaking up the impressive partnership being formed with Filip Benkovic.

With his contract ending in May 2019 the impact of Boyata’s injury could be double edged.

If he hasn’t returned to action before the turn of the year there is less chance of a bid coming in during the January transfer window- with Celtic missing out on a transfer fee is he leaves for free in the summer.

Boyata looked to have played his last game for Celtic when he pulled out of the Champions League qualifier with AEK Athens after a £9m bid from Fulham was rejected.

Rodgers managed to sooth over that situation with the defender becoming a key part of Celtic’s success so far this season.
