Sevco fans are being reassured this morning with news of a transfer swoop for Steve Davis.

The 34-year-old has started just one EPL match for Southampton this season with the English side keen to get rid of his wages when the transfer window opens next month.

How Sevco can match those wages remains unclear with the chances being that they will have to wait until the summer to do business.

SunSport understands new Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl won’t stand in the way of the midfielder leaving when the transfer window opens.

Bringing back former Ibrox favourites has been a comforting theme of recent times with Allan McGregor and Kyle Lafferty- who both refused to TUPE in 2012- now back in favour after initially being slaughtered as traitors for turning their back on Charles Green.

With a Europa League exit looming on Thursday on the back of falling off top spot in the SPFL news of Davis returning to Ibrox is a timely boost for the gullible.

Steven Gerrard currently has plenty of options in midfield such as Andy Halliday, Scott Arfield, Ryan Jack, Graeme Dorrans, Ovie Ejaria, Lassana Coulibaly, Jordan Rossiter and Young McCrorie competing for places. Carlos Pena has also returned after two disastrous loan spells in Mexico.
