Damien Duff doesn’t expect Brendan Rodgers to ditch Celtic for Leicester City.

With Claude Puel under pressure the hoops boss has emerged as the bookies favourite to take over at the 2016 EPL champions.

A year or two the prospect of Rodgers quitting Celtic for Leicester would have been unthinkable but after two difficult transfer windows and suggestions of tension between the dug-out and boardroom the possibility can’t be dismissed.

On the back of record breaking turnover of £100m and a summer transfer profit of £20m there are still key areas in the Celtic side that need strengthening with a fortnight left in the transfer window.

Those circumstances have combined to cause concern for Celtic supporters but newly appointed reserve coach Duff is confident that Rodgers is here for the long haul.

Brendan’s an amazing manager and a top man and long may he stay,” Duff told The ExpressCeltic is his dream club. When I speak to him he seems so happy. People overlook the fact he almost won the Premier League with Liverpool.

I first met Brendan when he was youth manager at Chelsea. Jose Mourinho seemed to love the Irish and took a shine to the gaffer back then. I’d see Brendan every day and always have a bit of craic with him. I learned loads off him then because he would be up and around the first team.”

Puel has been the bookies favourite to be the next EPL manager to be sacked since before Christmas despite Leicester sitting in eighth place in the table.
