Brendan Rodgers has revealed that talks are underway to terminate Marvin Compper’s contract.

The defender was signed from RB Leipzig a year ago but after one appearance against Morton in the Scottish Cup it is clear that he has no future with Celtic.

Compper is under contract until June 2020 and will be looking for a significant pay off before returning to Germany.

Asked if the the 33-year-old was close to quitting Rodgers told The Sun: “There’s nothing as of yet – the club are speaking to Marvin’s representatives to try and find a solution.”

At the 2017 AGM Rodgers spoke out about his frustrations over central defence where there seemed to be a constant run of injuries around Champions League ties.

Kolo Toure was drafted in in 2016 to help out with Compper expected to do a similar job while working alongside the club’s younger defenders.

The former RB Leipzig defender was expected to make his debut last January against Brechin in the Scottish Cup but was ruled out by an injury picked up in Dubai with his only appearance being last March in a routine Scottish Cup win over Morton.
