It has long been suspected that the SFA made things up as they went along with the events of the Nimmo Smith Enquiry with their decision to ignore a decade of unregistered players winning cup finals confirming that notion. I wasn’t paranoia or the wishes of internet bampots.

Having a system where a Compliance Officer can apply retrospective justice seems a sensible move and something that all clubs and fans can live with- assuming that justice is dispersed with evenly.

From the first weekend of the season the actions of the Compliance Officer have been placed under suspicion, the selected leaking of the Alfredo Morelos ruling looks to have burst the damn.

Since they went public with a letter about Steven McLean following the 2015 Scottish Cup semi-final against Inverness Caley Thistle Celtic have said nothing in public about referees. That changed on Friday when they asked for a meeting and publication of John Beaton’s match report from Ibrox.

On the record the SFA haven’t said a word about the Morelos incidents, they still have time to cobble things together.

The second hand message on Thursday to unquestioning media outlets was that Beaton had witnessed the incidents and acted appropriately. We’re not sure if it was three, four or five incidents involving the Colombian striker.

Having corrected Madden’s verdict on Scott McKenna’s attack on Odsonne Edouard the SFA clearly has the power to do the same with the incidents in the Glasgow derby. Whether they have the guts and will to treat Morelos the same way as McKenna remains to be seen.
