Hugh Burns as launched a blistering attack on Hugh Burns in what is the media equivalent of the Larkhall Gazette taking aim at The New York Times.

Burns, known as mad Shuggie, was the blue eyed boy of his generation, tipped for greatness like an eighties Lewis MacLeod until Graeme Souness came to Ibrox and sent him packing to Hearts and the journey to oblivion.

Despite his true blue credentials his media duties haven’t expanded beyond Westsound Roadio, ‘Rangers TV’ and digital radio station Rocksport. Sutton enjoys contracts with BT Sport, BBC 5 Live, Daily Reord and Daily Mail.

The closest that Burns has come to national attention was when he squealed ‘Whit’s the goalie dain Tom’ as Moussa Dembele chipped in an equaliser at Ibrox in March.

Yesterday Burns joined heavyweight Shock-Jock Bill Young to pour over the glory of last week’s Glasgow derby and followed ‘Rangers TV’ anchor-man Tom Miller by attacking Sutton to play up to their miniscule audience.

The Sun reports Burns saying: “ “When did it ever become ‘our’ with Chris Sutton. Because, see Chris Sutton? Chris Sutton couldn’t spell Celtic.

“He came up here for two years, whatever, Celtic legend and all that. He’s a pundit. We all sometimes get excited but he couldn’t spell Celtic.

“Talk to me about Bobby Lennox, Kenny Dalglish, Danny McGrain, Roy Aitken. They’re all legends but Chris Sutton for me as ‘our’? Never his game.”

In FIVE years at Celtic Sutton won three SPL titles with only ineligible players from Ibrox denying Her Majesty her dosh preventing him from making it a clean sweep of championship wins.

His arrival in 2000 for £6m from Chelsea was pivotal to Celtic’s 2000/01 treble success under Martin O’Neill which forced the old Ibrox club into various tax scams. Within four months of joining Celtic Dave Murray splashed out £17m of the Bank of Scotland overdraft to sign Tore Andre Flo and Ronald de Boer.
