Brendan Rodgers still plans to bring in more players during the transfer window.

Oliver Burke and Timothy Weah have already taken part in training sessions in Dubai and will be joined by Vakoun Issouf Bayo before the end of this week.

The January window is never a straightforward time to bring players in but it’s believed that Rodgers is looking for a right-back and another central defender.

Well that’s the idea,” he told Celtic TV when asked if he would be bringing in any new players. “I think my time at the club, there’s been lots of change. The markets changed quite considerably really when you lose players.

“We come out of the summer where we obviously lost key players and the players up until this point have done really, really well.

“But it’s always important that you can improve, but that will be down to the availability, and as always with Celtic, the affordability of the player.

“These are key areas that we hope we can bring new players into the squad.”

Atalanta’s Belgian right-back Timothy Castagne has been linked with Celtic but with a fee of £9m being quoted that deal isn’t likely to progress.

Mikael Lustig and Cristian Gamboa are both out of contract in the summer with little likelihood of new offers being made.

Filip Benkovic and Dedryck Boyata aren’t contracted beyond the summer meaning that the guts of a new look defence will be required for the European qualifiers starting in July.
