Six months into the job and Steven Gerrard has a new found respect for referees- four days after Celtic called for publication of John Beaton’s match report from the Glasgow derby.

Back in August as he took charge of his first domestic game someone inside Ibrox had clearly briefed the new man in charge.

After a 1-1 draw at Aberdeen which saw Alfredo Morelos red carded Gerrard announced that refereeing decisions had been going against his club for years. After one domestic game in charge.

Steve Clarke and Craig Levein have both been disciplined for comments about referees but Gerrard wasn’t called in to Hampden to explain himself.

At the start of November his club issued a statement claiming that Willie Collum had underlying issues. A fine of £6,000 was issued but in 10 domestic matches since that statement Collum hasn’t been involved in a single match involving the Ibrox club.

Since calling for publication of Beaton’s match report Celtic haven’t heard back from the SFA.

The domestic game resumes next weekend, at Pittodrie and Ibrox Celtic were on the wrong end of incredible refereeing decisions.

Until Ian Maxwell addresses the issue and ensures that all clubs are treated in the same manner the SFA Chief Executive will have a major problem on his hands.
