Malmo are ready to rival AIK Stockholm for the signing of Mikael Lustig.
The defender is out of contract in June with no offer yet coming in to extend his Celtic stay beyond seven years.
Lustig hasn’t played in Sweden since leaving GIF Sundsvall in 2008 for Rosenborg with the lure of returning home to be weighed up with a more lucrative deal to one of the gulf states or a switch to the United States.
Bringing a current internationalist back into the domestic game would be a great coup for Malmo as Swedish website and podcaster Fotboll Direkt discussed.
After an impressive first season under Brendan Rodgers, Lustig’s form dipped last season with Celtic expected to sign a right-back during the last summer transfer window.
That failed to materialise with Jeremy Toljan signed on loan from Borussia Dortmund during the January window with the German starting Celtic’s last three matches.
Celtic signed Lustig as a free agent from Rosenborg in 2012.
