Neil Lennon has completed a dramatic day by becoming caretaker manager of Celtic.

The Irishman won three titles and two Scottish Cups during four years in charge of the club after taking over from Tony Mowbray as caretaker in 2010.

Lennon takes charge immediately with his first match in charge at Tynecastle, a ground where he has twice been physically attacked..

Last week the ex-Hibs boss was on media duty at Hampden previewing this weekend’s Scottish Cup ties giving little thought that he could be back in the game this season never mind in at the deep end at Easter Road on Saturday.

Announcing Lennon’s appointment he told the Celtic website: “I am absolutely delighted to be named manager of Celtic again. This is a Club which has been such a huge part of my life already and it is an honour to be asked to return.

I have given everything to Celtic as a player and manager already in my career and I am ready to do the same again. I will be doing all I can to continue the great work that has gone on in recent years.

“I am delighted that John Kennedy and Damien Duff have agreed to be part of my team. John will allow us to have important continuity and Damien will bring real knowledge and experience to the first team squad.

I am returning to one of the biggest and best clubs in world football and I can’t wait to get started.”

Lennon will meet the Celtic players tonight but has worked with many of them and faced Celtic twice this season, leading Hibs to a 2-0 win at Easter Road in December in his last game against the hoops.

After the double dunt to Edinburgh Lennon will enjoy an emotional home coming on March 9 when Celtic host Aberdeen with that match already sold-out.
