Scott Brown is delighted to prove his social media critics have got it all wrong.

With 17 trophies to his name and more European appearances than any other Scottish player there is no shortage of people jealous of his achievements and ready to put the boot in at the slightest excuse.

After returning from a knee injury earlier this season Brown was told that he had lost a yard while the December 29 Glasgow derby defeat had the critics out in droves.

Scott Arfield became an Ibrox legend when he mocked the hoops skipper with his own Broony celebration but with an empty trophy cabinet the former Burnley and Huddersfield ace might have shot himself in the foot.

Brown has lived through every emotion over the last dozen tears and is determined to maintain his standards for at least another two years.

I’m 33 now and if someone is going to write to me on Twitter saying I’m finished I’m really going to cry myself to sleep at night…” he told the Daily Record.

I don’t think I have to prove a point to anybody. For me, I’ve done well over my 12 years so far. We’ve won a lot of games and set so many records over the past few years. Obviously you are eventually going to get beaten in a game.

For us, it wasn’t the best performance but we’ll come back stronger from it. Since then we’ve gone on a winning run which has been good for us.”

Brown will be in his usual spot in the centre of the park for tonight’s clash with Hibs as Celtic look to maintain their 100% start to 2019.
