Chris Sutton has come up with a brilliant suggestion for the Compliance Officer as disciplinary matters at the SFA go into meltdown.
Last week we discovered that the Compliance Officer can review incidents in which players have already been punished when Darnell Johnson had a yellow card upgraded to a red for his horror attack on Emilio Izaguirre. That development completely contradicted the explanation given for John Beaton’s display in the December Glasgow derby.
The day after the Johnson decision television viewers were ‘treated’ to two more decisions that looked incredibly lenient.
Scotland the only country in world football where you can kick someone in head and elbow someone deliberately in most people’s eyes and get let off… the Compliance Officer needs a Compliance Officer…

In the St Mirren v Dundee United match Paul McGinn escaped with a yellow card for what can only be described as a forearm smash on Cammy Smith. Willie Collum had a perfect view of the incident, soon afterwards he sent off United’s Callum Butcher for what seemed a lesser but still deserving of a red card foul on Ryan Flynn.
Also today the same committee looked at Alan Power’s booking for a foul on Ryan Jack but decided against any further action. The Kilmarnock midfielder will be available to face Celtic on Sunday with Bobby Madden refereeing that fixture.
