Steven Gerrard has told Rangers fans to forget winning the title!

The Ibrox boss made the incredible confession after watching his side draw 0-0 at home to St Johnstone.

A win would have cut Celtic’s lead at the top of the table to just three points before tomorrow’s match at Kilmarnock but after slipping up at home the Ibrox men could be eight points behind tomorrow if Celtic see off Steve Clarke’s side.

Asked about the extra disappointment of missing the chance to put pressure on Celtic, Gerrard told his media conference broadcast on Radio Clyde: “I think right now forget title and forget closing gaps, the reality is if you perform like that, in front of 50,000 people there is your evidence.

You don’t need me to say this that and the other. You have a group of lads out there, and they give you that when they’ve got the chance to close it to three points and you have Aberdeen, Kilmarnock and the rest breathing down your neck- that is NOT what is required at Rangers when you’ve got the chance to close the gap. It’s miles away from it.”

After destroying his players in public Gerrard must turn to the same group on Wednesday night to deliver a Scottish Cup win over Kilmarnock.

Alfredo Morelos will be available for that replay but will miss next Sunday’s SPFL clash away to Hamilton which is the third and final game of his suspension.

Celtic go to Kilmarnock tomorrow on the back of seven successive domestic wins as they attempt to win the title for the eighth year running.
