Chris Sutton believes that the SFA hit rock bottom yesterday with their non-decisions on Paul McGinn and Alan Power.

Last week it seemed that common sense was finally being applied as Allan McGregor and Darnell Johnson were offered two match suspensions for incidents that appeared to be overlooked by the match officials.

Bobby Madden failed to apply any punishment to McGregor for his brutal kick at Lewis Ferguson while Craig Thomson felt that Johnson’s crunch on Izaguirre’s ankle was only worth a booking.

McGinn and Power were both involved in high profile incidents on Saturday but after a few days anticipating retrospective action the SFA leaked the news to favoured news outlets that no further action would be taken.

Sutton told his twitter followers that the SFA Compliance Officer needed a Compliance Officer, in the Daily Record he took things further.

This is rock bottom. The McGinn incident defies belief. It should have been seen by ref Willie Collum but the fact the compliance officer doesn’t mop up the mess just makes you wonder what is the point in her being there?

This is supposed to be a safety net for officials but instead they make things worse. Everyone in the country could see McGinn was a clear red card. It as dangerous and clearly deliberate.

Power was a red as well. You can’t tell me he wasn’t recklessly endangering an opponent going in with his boot at head height like that.

What does he have to do to get sent off, decapitate Jack? We’ve seen countless examples of incompetence this season, right from day one, and we’ve now got to the point where anything goes, whether it’s kicking people in the head, elbowing them or booting them in the testicles.

The compliance officer is not up to the job, but the entire disciplinary process is a shambles. They are not fit for purpose.”

Fresh from his failure to punish McGregor for his attack on Ferguson, Madden will referee Sunday’s match between Kilmarnock and Celtic.
