Alex McLeish has driven another huge wedge into his relationship with Scotland fans by praising Rod Petrie and Alan McRae.

The not so dynamic duo epitomise the term ‘blazers’ as they enjoy the high life of first class travel and junkets while contributing nothing towards the national game.

As president and president elect of the SFA McRae and Petrie were the driving forces behind appointing McLeish in a move that proved underwhelming across the Scotland support.

Lifeless defeats away to Israel and Kazakhstan have come as a shock to the Tartan Army with their anger in the 2-0 win over San Marino expressed in chants to ‘Sack The Board’.

Petrie and McRae never said a word in public during the recent international jolly with McLeish popping up to sing their praises as the storm crowds gather over Hampden.

They are football men, absolute football men,” the current international manager told The Sun. “I worked with big Rod at Hibs and had a great relationship with him. Maybe some people say differently but I can only go on my own personal experiences.

Alan McRae is a revered football guy in Aberdeen with what he has done for the game up in the north east in particular. These guys have done a good job for Scottish football.”

The dynamic duo and McLeish will now be tasked with trying to get the Tartan Army to buy tickets for the Hampden visit of Cyprus on June 8 against a background of widespread call-offs.
