Chris Sutton believes that Celtic should make a summer swoop for Uche Ikeazu.
The Hearts striker is the very definition of ‘a big unit’ and certainly made a big impact on the Celtic defence in midweek.
Ikeazu has only scored once in nine SPFL starts but had a big chunk of his season disrupted by injury as Hearts’ form nosedived.
It’s unlikely that the 24-year-old would have been a transfer target for Brendan Rodgers but the early signs are that Neil Lennon wants to play a more direct game which could involve a front two.
Whether Lennon will have any say in future signings is an entirely different subject but as a fairly physical striker in his day Sutton thinks that Ikeazu is worth recruiting.
In the Daily Record he explained:
Make no mistake, Wednesday’s win at Tynecastle was a monumental step on the way. You could say Celtic were lucky but Lennon’s changes made a positive impact in the game and they earned their good fortune.
Hearts are a bloody awkward side at home and I was very impressed by them. It wouldn’t be a bad idea for Celtic to make a move for Ache Ikeazu as well as the big striker must be an absolute nightmare to play against. He’d bring a different option, that’s for sure.
Ikeazu signed a two year contract with Hearts last summer after his deal at Cambridge, whee he scored 19 league goals in 55 appearances (plus 14 as a sub), expired.
