When Scotland line up in Kazakhstan the fitness of Scott Bain will be the one that Neil Lennon watches most closely.

The former Dundee keeper racked up his 11th clean sheet of 2019 at Dens Park on Saturday with only the highly dubious goal from Motherwell and a Hearts penalty denying him a domestic clean sweep this year.

While Bain is in outstanding form Celtic are left very exposed if anything happens to the 27-year-old while he is on international duty.

Craig Gordon’s injury has saw Dorus de Vries promoted onto the bench for the last two matches with the Dutchman having only played one reserve match all season.

Last March de Vries was the man in possession going to Ibrox before Bain stepped in and kicked off a new chapter in his career. In a cruel way the roles could be reversed next Sunday if anything happens to Bain in Kazakhstan or San Marino.

Below de Vries Celtic have sent Ross Doohan and Conor Hazard out on loan to Ayr United and Partick Thistle, the sixth choice keeper, Ryan Mullen is in Portugal with the Scotland u-19 squad with three matches scheduled before he returns to Glasgow at the end of next week..

Bain has been a revelation for Celtic this year, hopefully he remains injury free and is able to continue his form a week on Sunday with another shut out taking the hoops closer to title number eight.
