If there was one player in the Celtic dressing room that Brendan Rodgers thought he could rely on it would be Scott Sinclair.

In the mind of the Irishman he is solely responsible for the success of Sinclair’s career, working with the 28-year-old at Chelsea, Swansea and then Celtic where he dominated the Player of the Year awards in 2017.

As he carefully planned his exit from Celtic Rodgers took training as usual on Monday, preparing to face Hearts without dropping a hint to Sinclair or anyone else that he’d be 300 miles away when the action kicked off at Tynecastle.

Sinclair has got on with business as usual, he wasn’t born into Celtic, he isn’t in his dream job but he is a professional, plying his trade for cash and giving it 100% effort and concentration. He hasn’t made a single comment on the sudden exit of his former hoops boss.

The man from Bristol hadn’t given Celtic a second thought until the summer of 2016 when Rodgers made contact.

He hasn’t embellished his CV with tear jerking emotion, he hasn’t released a book of gushing garbage and hasn’t even felt the need to make up stories about Danny McGrain or drivers in the Clyde Tunnel.

Sinclair could leave Celtic this summer or next but wherever he goes in the world he will have the thanks of thousands of supporters.

When he pops into an Irish bar in New York, Boston, Dubai or Melbourne he will be warmly welcomed, reminded of his time in Glasgow. The guy that brought him to Glasgow will steer well clear of those type of haunts and be explaining himself away long after he’s been forgotten by Leicester, the latest group that he is giving his life too.
