Within 48 hours of his death The Celtic Way has been turned into a shrine to Billy McNeill.

Supporters have made it their duty to visit the statue looking down onto London Road with a carpet of flowers, scarves and Celtic jerseys stretching out.

As darkness started to fall the statue appears bolder and stronger than ever with the lights flickering across the scene.

Special arrangements will have to be put in place before Saturday’s match against Kilmarnock with the Celtic first team due to pay their respects an hour before kick off.

The Celtic players will wear a special armband with the number five for a match that is bound to be very emotional.

A home win will take Neil Lennon’s squad to a point away from clinching the title which would be confirmed if Aberdeen take anything from Ibrox on Sunday. McNeill managed Aberdeen during the 1977/78 season.
