Marvin Compper is in line for a shock appearance against St Mirren on Wednesday. I know today’s date.

In January 2018 Celtic paid £1m and handed out a two and a half year contract to bring in the experienced defender but so far his hoops career has consisted of just 81 minutes against Morton in a Scottish Cup tie 13 months ago.

With Dedryck Boyata facing at least a month out injured after suffering a hamstring pull in the Glasgow derby Compper is in the first team squad for Wednesday’s match.

With Filip Benkovic already out injured central defensive options are getting thin on the ground with Neil Lennon happy to include Compper in the squad for Paisley.

During the first half of the season the 33-year-old didn’t play a single reserve match but has been involved since February and scored a goal in the recent 3-2 win over Hearts.

Compper won’t feature in tomorrow’s Reserve League match against St Mirren leaving Lennon to decide whether to start with the German or to play Simunovic alongside Ajer on Wednesday night.
