Lennon denies striker rumour

|

Neil Lennon has dismissed a report that Celtic are ready to bid for Silas Wamangituka.

The Celtic boss did watch Paris in action on Monday night but despite being on the look out for a striker the 19-year-old from Congo isn’t under consideration.

The Daily Record reported:

Lennon admits he was in France to eye up potential new arrivals and while Wamangituka is not one of them – he revealed a new striker is a priority heading into the summer window.

“It wasn’t him,” Lennon said after watching his side beat Kilmarnock. “But we are looking at players. And centre-forward is a position I would look at.”

Wamangituka is in his first season playing for Paris in the second tier of French football with a record of 9 goals from 19 appearances.

Celtic have been well served by French strikers in recent seasons but the teenager at Paris doesn’t have the same sort of pedigree as Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard.

With the problems of Leigh Griffiths and January signing Nayo limited to just five minutes of action Celtic have effectively ‘got away’ with playing with just one striker this year.

Lennon’s involvement in scouting missions and player assessments suggests that he is likely to be in charge next season even though the club hasn’t made any comment since appointing him as caretaker in February.
