It wasn’t quite a Kennedy moment, JFK not John, but few supporters will forget the winning goal against Kilmarnock as Celtic closed in on the SPFL title.

This season has already provided much more drama than was anticipated when the Double Treble winners kicked off away to Alashkert while the World Cup continued over the border in Russia.

Moussa Dembele left in a rush, the saintly reputation of Brendan Rodgers was trashed and the recently mutually consented Neil Lennon returned to take charge.

Who would have scripted that in July?

Yesterday the evolving romance and history of Celtic moved on to another level completely.

Five days after the death of the legendary Billy McNeill the support gathered to celebrate a genuine icon.

It was largely a dull and lifeless performance from the side chasing the title, Kilmarnock had Celtic’s number and posed as many questions of the hoops defence.

But they never had fate on their side, there was no number 5 jersey when the clock reached 67, and that amongst many things is what makes Celtic special, more than a club, more than a support, more than a movement driven by something special.
